Purpose

This Abandoned Student Tools Policy addresses the need for SPSCC personnel to establish a clear set of communications and outcomes to each professional-technical student who abandons their tools/toolbox in a professional-technical shop or classroom.

Applies to:

Professional-Technical faculty, staff, and students. An agreement to this policy will be distributed to students at the onset of each quarter for introductory professional-technical program courses (e.g., AUTO 100). Students must read, sign, and return this policy to the professional-technical department office/program manager at the onset of the introductory course. If a student does not take the introductory course due to credit for prior learning (and/or instructor permission), then they will need to read, sign, and return this policy at the onset of the first professional-technical course they complete. This policy will be posted on relevant SPSCC professional-technical webpages (e.g., AUTO, WELD, CMT, etc.).

Student tools abandoned at South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) for longer than 30 days + two quarters will become the property of SPSCC, which will assess the market value of the tools and sell them to other students in professional-technical programs at a discounted rate. Proceeds will be returned to the relevant SPSCC program/department.
