Classified employees may teach courses at the college with the approval of their immediate supervisor, the respective vice president, the Vice President for Instruction (if not the same), and the Executive Human Resource Officer. The employee must be qualified to teach the course and receive approval from their immediate supervisor prior to the college issuing a contract.
The college is required by law to comply with the rules and regulations under the Department of Labor, Fair Labor Standards Act. The college is required to pay time and one-half to classified employees when his/her work week exceeds 40 hours. When teaching in addition to their primary job, the employee may work over 40 hours per week. If an overtime eligible classified employee's work week goes over 40 hours, all overtime will be calculated using a weighted average and will be charged to the respective department.
