Purpose
Running Start allows eligible 11th and 12th grade students the opportunity to take college level courses while enrolled in high school. Credit earned at the college will transfer back to the high school and can count toward high school graduation requirements.
Applies to:

11th and 12th grade students, as determined by the local public school district, charter school or tribal compact school, have a right granted by the Legislature (Chapter 9, Laws of 1990, 1st Ex. Session, RCW 28A.600.300 to RCW 28A.600.400) to participate in Running Start at any of Washington’s 34 community and technical colleges and identified four-year universities and public tribal colleges.  Students must be enrolled in a public, private, virtual or home school program registered in the state of Washington.

To enroll, students must be eligible for junior or senior status and place into or have completed ENGL& 101.  Detailed information and enrollment steps can be found on the Running Start Admissions webpage.
