College Preparatory Programs with Exams Procedures

Applies to: Students enrolled in grades 9-12 are eligible to participate in Advanced Placement and Cambridge International. Students in grades 11-12 are eligible to participate in the International Baccalaureate’s Diploma Programme. High schools and districts determine what programs to offer and are responsible for student placement into courses and programs.

Purpose: College preparatory programs with exams (CPPE) provide students with an opportunity to earn college credit through standardized assessment exams. In Washington state, these exams include Advanced Placement (AP), Cambridge International Education (CI), and International Baccalaureate (IB).

Placement for college level English and Math can be granted with specific CPPE course completion or scores on the standardized assessment exams. College credit can be earned through specific scores on standardized assessment exams. More information about placement and transfer of credit can be found on the Placement Options webpage.
