General Education Policy

South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) adopts the following policies regarding general education courses:

1. Courses qualify as General Education courses for the A.A. and A.S. Direct Transfer Agreements (DTA’s) if they are generally transferable courses based on Appendix A of the ICRC Handbook.
a. Courses indicated as only transferrable electives by Appendix B of the ICRC Handbook do not qualify as General Education courses for the A.A. and A.S. Direct Transfer Agreements.
b. Courses which do not qualify for transfer credit based on either Appendix A or Appendix B of the current ICRC Handbook do not satisfy General Educational requirements.

2. Professional/Technical programs of 45 credits or more require general education courses in the communication, computation, and human relations distribution areas. Courses qualify for the Professional/Technical General Education list if they:
a. Contribute to general education by meeting at least one of the college-wide abilities; and
b. Reflect at least two of the common themes within one of the general education areas of communication, computation, and human relations; and
c. Introduce students to fundamental knowledge, skills, and abilities related to occupational preparation.

Course Review Committee will assure that the course outline form contains instructions for including courses in SPSCC’s General Education lists.
