College Closures

College closures and severe weather can be frustrating and create challenges for many areas of the college. These events can be unique and require everyone's patience, cooperation, and understanding during these occurrences. Closure decisions are not taken lightly and the first priority in these situations is the safety of everyone in our campus community.

All college staff and students should monitor their email and cell phones for Rave Emergency notifications regarding campus closures, late starts and security alerts. If you have friends or family who wish to receive SMS text alerts, they can text spsccalerts to 67283.

Decisions regarding college closures based on inclement weather will normally be made by 5:30 a.m. on the day in question and broadcast shortly thereafter. Please refer to the college website for the most current information regarding closures.

The following college closure types may be used depending on the conditions present. College employees are expected to know the meaning of each type of closure and their appropriate responsibility.

Classes Canceled- Classes are canceled and students and faculty are not expected to be in class. Normal work schedules and expectations exist for all other employees. Those employees who, in their judgment, do not wish to report for work due to the conditions present must request annual leave, accrued compensatory time, where applicable, or leave without pay.

College Closed-The college is closed to all students and college employees. Students, visitors, and non-essential staff will not be allowed on the campus that is closed, which could be all campus locations. Essential employees may be called to work duty. In the event that all campuses are closed, all business operations, classes, and events are suspended until that campus is re-opened. No employees will be required to request annual leave, accrued compensatory time, or leave without pay for the first day of inclement weather closure days.
