Career and Technical Education (CTE) Dual Credit Policy

SPSCC will establish and maintain CTE dual credit articulations with partner high schools according to the following guidelines:
1. Articulating courses at the secondary and college level must meet the eligibility guidelines listed below.
2. An articulation agreement will be reviewed by both high school and college personnel before approval [see Procedures below].
3. High school teachers for each articulated course will be verified each year [see Procedures below].
4. Articulation agreements will be reviewed by SPSCC and the high school partner every 5 years. Articulations may be reviewed more frequently if there are significant changes to either the high school or college course.
5. Students must earn a grade of ‘B’ (3.0) or better in all courses required under the articulation agreement in order to receive credit at SPSCC.

SPSCC courses eligible for articulation:
To be eligible for CTE dual credit articulation, an SPSCC course must be:
1. Part of a professional-technical program of study
2. Not generally accepted in transfer, as defined by Appendix A of the ICRC handbook

200-level courses may be considered for CTE dual credit if they are introductory to the program.

High school-level courses eligible for articulation:
To be eligible for articulation with SPSCC through CTE dual credit, a high school-level course must be:
1. Taught by an instructor with vocational certification (V-code) appropriate to the subject area of the course.
2. The secondary course must meet at least 80% of the outcomes of the articulating course at SPSCC, as determined by SPSCC faculty in the articulating program.

DEFINITIONS

- CTE: Career and Technical Education
- CTE Dual Credit: A statewide program that provides a framework for high school students to earn college credit for successful completion of CTE courses taken at their high school. Community and technical colleges are required to offer CTE Dual Credit in order to receive funding from the federal Perkins Career and Technical Education Act. CTE Dual Credit was previously referred to as “Tech Prep”.
